In this edition of our Service Solutions series which took place on Monday, August 31 we were joined by Ecolab Life Sciences for an in-depth look at the landscape surrounding current Good Manufacturing Practices related to cannabis and how the lack of clarity at the federal level here in the United States complicates a vital process every grower or producer must take into consideration.
GMPs are established by the FDA in the 21 Code of Federal Regulations, with GMPs defined for each: Foods, Drugs, Medical Devices, and Dietary Supplements in specific Parts of the CFR. Defined within those GMPs are requirements for cleaning and cleaning validation for each category. Because cannabis is not legal for commerce under Federal law, the FDA has not defined GMPs for cannabis or cannabis containing products. That leaves the cannabis processor with no specific guidance on GMPs, cleaning, or cleaning validation. At the same time, the cannabis customer is likely operating in a regulated category. So, what is a cannabis grower / processor to do?
In this session, we will explore
• Regulations that may impact the Cannabis customer – how does that impact the cannabis producer?
• GMP requirements for cleaning and cleaning validation for typical Cannabis forms
• Rational to determine GMPs that Cannabis producers may follow
• Steps for establishing cleaning methods and a cleaning validation program.
