Introducing Distru Data Series: $1 Billion Of Wholesale Cannabis Transactions

After launching Distru in 2016, we’ve added over 500 licenses to our platform and recently surpassed $1 billion in wholesale cannabis transactions, and we.are.pumped. While cannabis culture typically calls for commemorating milestones by sharing a joint (damnit, COVID), we’re celebrating by sharing some no-bulls*t insight with you instead!

This is not another consumer report or cannabis-COVID update. It’s dedicated to the middle of the supply chain, and helping companies scale intelligently using the information at your fingertips.

Since recreational cannabis legalization went into effect two years ago, California’s manufacturers, distributors, brands, and retailers have been functioning under an unpredictable supply chain with razor-thin margins. While some companies have found success in running lean operations, the absence of data blurs the full picture and ultimately stagnates growth. Without the ability to centralize and comprehend data, many questions go unanswered, and obstacles become embedded into the business model.

So Distru poses the questions:

What type of data is readily available to you? How can that data be used for better decision-making across teams? How can last month’s sales help set next quarter’s KPIs?

We answer these questions and more in our Distru Data Series kicking off next week.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll help you examine the treasure trove of data at your disposal. Our three-part webinar series will focus on establishing what data is available, how you can utilize your sources, and how to tap into your company’s numbers for valuable insight.

Metrics are central to becoming competitive in the cannabis market, but don’t take our word for it, our partners at Cookies, Headset, and Lowell Herb Co. will be joining us on September 2 to tell you themselves.

MA Cannabis’ First-Ever Certified MBE and WMBE Issued Provisional Licenses

HOLYOKE, Mass. – July 23, 2020 – ( Newswire.com )

Massachusetts cannabis just got more diverse. The High End is proud to be the Commonwealth’s first-ever Certified MBE and WMBE cannabis company after successfully petitioning the Cannabis Control Commission to create pathways for equitable industry access for women and people of color. The mission-driven company will continue this vital advocacy work as it establishes itself in the Northeast.

The High End is also thrilled to announce that it has been awarded provisional licenses for Cultivation, Manufacturing, and Retail, and has a Research license in-process.

Its 60,000-square-foot facility will house cultivation, petroleum-free extraction, kitchens, and a research lab. With sustainability and wellness at its core, The High End will employ an organic living soil cultivation program, whose artisanal, small-batch flower will be the bedrock of its brand. A portion of its flower will be processed for sale as concentrates or used in its chef-driven infusions program, which includes exciting limited-edition projects with celebrated chefs from New York City and around the world. The High End is also committed to uplifting the farmers that contribute ingredients to its infusions program, such as dairy and cacao.

Its flagship dispensary in the heart of historic downtown Holyoke, the gateway to New England, is paired with a turn-of-the-century-pharmacy-inspired coffee shop – a warm, welcoming, and engaging venue for customers to learn about cannabis while shopping for hemp-derived CBD, handcrafted accessories, and literature, and enjoying exceptional coffee or house-made botanical elixirs.

About

East Coast cannabis consumers currently lack access to genuinely seed-to-sale craft producers, let alone one that marries its products with hospitality to deliver a holistic and enhanced experience. Today’s cannabis operators are focused on pounds produced over cannabis crafted; grams sold over customers served. The High End will change this dynamic.

The High End began as an idea to create high end cannabis chocolates, tapping into the founders’ network of extraordinary culinary talent. During research, it became evident that, in order to deliver reliable edibles, it must also control cultivation, as there exists no flower in the market that meets its growing standards. This revelation coincided with the founders’ navigation of the NY medical marijuana program for their daughter’s epilepsy and their necessity for clean and consistent cannabis. Living soil cultivation therefore became imperative. And when The High End learned that Holyoke – a city with nearly 100% carbon-neutral energy generation – welcomed the cannabis industry, the founders traded in their Brooklyn home for the 1890s mill building that is today their corporate headquarters.

The company’s founding team is comprised of sustainability-obsessed trailblazers with diverse professional backgrounds from Wall Street, New York City food and wine, Colorado living soil cannabis, regenerative agriculture, and film. And they are collaborating with some of the foremost thought-leaders in research, operations, advocacy, and soil health to cultivate the next generation of cannabis experiences.

The company continues to seek opportunities for strategic partners who share its vision for growth. Connect to: inquiries@highendchocolate.com.

ANAB Votes to Grant PJRFSI Accreditation for Cannabis Certification

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MAY 4, 2020 – WASHINGTON, DC

Perry Johnson Registrars Food Safety, Inc. (PJRFSI) has officially become the first certification body to be granted Accreditation for cannabis certification in the United States by ANAB. The independent cannabis certification standard developed by PJRFSI is a GMP- and GAP-based scheme intended to help cannabis growers, manufacturers, and retailers meet the range of state-by-state requirements.

This standard aims to provide needed outlines for cannabis cultivation, product manufacture, and retail practices nationwide. As each state determines the status of cannabis legality within their jurisdiction, certification requirements can be haphazard. With the release and accreditation of their standard, PJRFSI hopes to simplify and unite the United States cannabis industry for the benefit of everyone from grower to producer to end user.

PJRFSI President Terry Boboige and Accreditation Manager Lauren Maloney have expressed great excitement for what accreditation means for not only PJRFSI, but for the cannabis industry at large:

“The team at Perry Johnson Registrars Food Safety Inc. is incredibly excited to be the first company in the United States to achieve formal accreditation for our Cannabis and Hemp Certification Program. We believe this nationally-recognized program will help the budding cannabis and hemp industries to strengthen, legitimize, and separate themselves from companies that do not have formal certification. Certification to this standard will forever help enhance companies’ image, credibility, and reliability. Accredited certification exemplifies to the public that certified organizations who supply cannabis and hemp products and services have internal safety systems that can inspire confidence.”

InSpire Transpiration Solutions to Host Cultivation Webinar Series

InSpire Transpiration Solutions to Host Cultivation Webinar Series

Leading HVAC solutions company will discuss how cultivators can uncover profitability
through an understanding of cannabis plant culture

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – April 29, 2020 – InSpire Transpiration Solutions, an HVAC products and services provider focused on controlled environment horticulture to optimize product quality, is excited to announce a new webinar series exploring important topics for cannabis cultivators. The series will focus on the concept of cultural control, the practice of modifying an indoor growing environment to maximize photosynthetic outputs and reduce the prevalence of unwanted pests and pathogens. Cultural control is an important part of a cultivation operation’s environmental control strategy, and is directly related to managing factors like grow room temperature, relative humidity, CO2 levels and regulating pests.

The webinars will feature discussions on how cultivators can optimize product quality and increase profitability through a deep understanding of cannabis climate control plant culture. “The 10 Cardinal Parameters of Plant Health and Vitality” is the first event in the series, and will take place on Thursday, May 7 at 10:00 a.m. PT.

“Successful cannabis cultivation depends on many variables, including an intimate understanding of your plants that goes beyond basic needs for growth,” said Adrian Giovenco, CEO of InSpire Transpiration Solutions. “A consistent cultural and environmental control strategy can help cultivators maximize plant genetics, optimize product quality and yield, and influence overall plant health and vitality.”

The webinar series will be hosted by industry experts Jesse Porter and Robbie Batts of InSpire Transpiration Solutions. Porter brings more than a decade of experience to his role as Cannabis Business Specialist where he helps cultivators mitigate risk and maximize profits. Batts is InSpire’s co-founder and Chief Technology Officer with expertise in designing, selling and commissioning HVAC systems for grow rooms. Porter and Batts will bring their breadth of knowledge in cultivation science and technology to guide the conversation and answer questions in real time.

“The 10 Cardinal Parameters of Plant Health and Vitality” will explore the 10 most important factors that influence plant growth and plant health, and the impact these factors have on plant transpiration and vapor pressure deficit (VPD). Understanding these cardinal parameters allows cultivators to manipulate VPD to optimize plant genetics, biomass, phenotype expression and other elements that influence product quality.

To register for the first webinar in the series, visit: https://webinar.ringcentral.com/webinar/register/WN_DEtcL5z3TCugSldekW1fPQ.

Cannabis Consulting and Marketing Firm Goes Through Rebrand After 11 Years

Philadelphia, PA — With the rapid growth of the cannabis industry in the US and abroad, demand for niche-specific consulting, advertising, marketing, and design services are continuing to grow exponentially. Baby boomer Claudia Post and Millennial Jonathan Monk are leading the charge.

Over 11 years ago, MOST launched as Smokin’ Hot Solutions – “We create the buzz”. Their name and brand represented who they were, and the demographics of cannabis business owners at the time, but not now, because things have changed dramatically. As time went on, their agency and expertise, as well as their reputation spread.

In 2019 they knew that it was time to meet the “new” industry, so they planned their rebrand. Stepping into 2020, their new brand MOST Consulting Group represents who they are now, the types of clients they are working with, their new service offerings, and their mission as a company. That mission is to “challenge the status quo, offer an expanded level of thinking, and achieve sustainable success for cannabis industry companies.”

With their 11 years in this explosive industry, they know they are in the right place at the right time. Their work has taken them across the US and abroad, working with dispensaries, growers & processors, hemp farms, testing labs, CBD companies, smoking accessories companies, and more. In the ultra-competitive world of cannabis, companies are looking for new ways to stand out from the pack, and that’s why they hire MOST.

Strategy, marketing, and advertising for cannabis companies are like no other. There are tremendous restructure challenges, as well as advertising restrictions and laws to navigate. These barriers have pushed them to be extremely creative and color outside the traditional challenges.

They are ever-evolving, innovating, and thinking differently, and that’s what distinguishes them the MOST.

To learn more about MOST and how they are helping companies in the cannabis industry, visit their website www.mostcg.com or reach out to them at welcome@mostcg.com.

NewTropic Launches Groundbreaking Cannabis Manufacturing Facility in Santa Rosa, California

Santa Rosa, CA – January 28, 2020 / NewTropic, a leading cannabis manufacturer based in Santa Rosa, California, announced it has officially launched its highly-anticipated “Type 7” manufacturing and co-packaging facility in Santa Rosa this week. The state-of-the-art facility, which is in the process of becoming cGMP certified, will have one of the highest production capacities in the United States. It will produce professional-grade cannabis products including bulk crude and distillate, flower and pre-rolls, and all forms of cannabis concentrates, with edibles and beverages coming online in 2020 – for California brands, cultivators, manufacturers, and distributors.

“This new cGMP-level facility (certified by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration), is truly unique in terms of manufacturing capabilities and scale,” said NewTropic Co-founder and CEO Alex Rowland. “We spared no detail to build the best cannabis production facility in California from the ground up. Our vision is to take cannabis manufacturing to an entirely new level, one that’s on par with top-tier food and pharmaceutical manufacturing.”

NewTropic has taken a unique approach to cannabis manufacturing, combining the founders’ extensive background in technology startups with manufacturing innovation and operational best practices. The technology and capacity deployed at the facility will enable the company to offer customers significant cost efficiencies, unmatched product quality and consistency, and the ability to scale production as their business grows.

“Our focus is to be highly professional in everything we do and to deliver for our customers,” said Rowland, “something that unfortunately has been lacking in the cannabis industry.”

NewTropic is already onboarding its initial set of customers and partners, including marquee cannabis brands as well as multi-state operators and distributors. The company has also been raising capital to support this vision, having closed over $10 million in venture funding to date. The company intends to raise additional capital in early 2020 to fund expansion into additional facilities in California and in other states.

About NewTropic:

NewTropic provides professional-grade manufacturing and supply chain solutions to California cannabis brands, cultivators, manufacturers, and distributors. Leveraging deep manufacturing expertise combined with cutting-edge technology and innovation, NewTropic is elevating the level of cannabis production to enable its partners to deliver superior products with consistency and scale. Akene Consulting, LLC’s Parent Company Named To Forbes List of America’s Best Tax Firms

San Jose, California – December, 2020. Akene Consulting, LLC’s parent company, Petrinovich Pugh & Company, LLP (PP&Co), has been named to Forbes’ list of America’s Best Tax Firms. Of the 18,000+ tax and accounting firms in the country considered for the award, only 203 made the list in the ‘tax’ category. PP&Co, a Silicon Valley Accounting Firm, is privileged to have been one of only seven Bay Area firms to receive the distinction.

Forbes partnered with global market research firm Statista to compile the list. The research firm received some 1800 survey responses from CPAs, CFOs, in-house accountants, enrolled agents, and tax attorneys. Respondents were asked to provide a list of ten Tax and Accounting firms that they would recommend. Self-nominations from CPAs and CPA firms were not considered. Firms who received the most recommendations were included on the list.

In response to the news, Edward Davis (one of PP&Co’s three Managing Partners) had this to say. “We are honored to be included on the list.  We take great pride in the considerable skill of our team and in their tireless commitment to serving our clients. This honor is particularly appreciated as it comes partly from our peers, for whom we have great respect.  It is reassuring to know that that respect is reciprocated. Again, huge thanks to our team for the efforts they put forth every day, and to Forbes for recognizing us as one of the top recommended tax firms in the country.”

About PP&Co

Cannabis Software Provider, Trym, Launches Integrations with Argus and TrolMaster Environmental Controls

Cannabis cultivators can now pair the powerful farm management, analytics, and seed-to-sale capabilities of Trym with top-tier environmental control systems

NOVATO, Calif., Jan. 27, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Trym, a cannabis farm management and compliance software company, announced today integrations with Argus and TrolMaster environmental control systems.

Traditionally, cannabis growers have used environmental controls as isolated systems. By tracking and linking environmental conditions to each batch of plants, Trym enables growers to see the cause-and-effect relationship between their grow conditions and resulting yields.

“We know how important environmental data is to running a cultivation business, as well as to our analytics. To ensure our customers have the highest degree of information about their operations at all times, we constructed the most flexible IoT integration I’ve seen in cannabis,” said Matt Mayberry, CEO of Trym. “We’re now able to execute new hardware integrations in hours rather than weeks, providing our customers the freedom to select the systems that make the most sense for their businesses.”

Trym can now monitor and link Argus and TrolMaster sensor data, like temperature, humidity, and CO2, to the plant batches grown in their respective rooms or zones. In addition to environmental monitoring, cultivators can schedule employee tasks, like planting, feeding and harvesting, and review harvest analytics, all from their Trym account. Creating a customized and compliant system for cultivators to optimize and scale their business operations.

About Trym

Founded in Novato, California in 2017, Trym is cannabis farm management software custom-built for commercial cultivators. Trym helps improve efficiency and consistency through precise environmental monitoring, customized task and batch management, and plant analytics. Trym is currently integrated with Metrc in California and Oregon, and can be used alongside compliance software in other states. Kukuza Announces Free Diagnostic to Prepare Cannabis Companies for Scaling and Growing Their Business

Is your company’s finance function ready for the big leagues? Get your free checkup and find out!

Newark, Calif., August 15, 2019 — Kukuza Associates LLC, a cannabis-dedicated subsidiary of RoseRyan, today has introduced the Kukuza Rapid Diagnostic: a new tool that the Silicon Valley-based finance and accounting consultancy is offering for free to cannabis companies intent on reaching their potential.

Designed to rapidly assess the most important dimensions of a cannabis company’s finance and operational capabilities, the diagnostic takes two hours to complete with a Kukuza team member. And what do companies get? Critical feedback so they can handle what’s necessary for effectively scaling and growing their business.

The Kukuza Rapid Diagnostic determines if the financial foundation of the cannabis company has what’s needed to achieve future milestones and satisfy investors, by evaluating the overall systems, processes and finance function of the business. For companies facing growth issues and tough budgeting decisions, the diagnostic helps them prioritize what needs improving.

Explains Dave Roberson, CEO of Kukuza, which means “potential” in Swahili, “We think this simple yet comprehensive dialogue, guided by the diagnostic’s finely tuned questionnaire, will engage cannabis company leaders and ready them for growth.”

He adds, “That’s what our firm is all about and that’s why we’re offering the Kukuza Rapid Diagnostic for free, at least initially—we want to ignite interest in it and be the rocket fuel to as many cannabis companies as possible. This diagnostic lights the way for them, rapidly, so they can make the right investments in their companies.”

How It Works: Digging into the Financial and Operational Health of the Cannabis Company

For cannabis operators leading companies of any kind or size, the diagnostic is easy to do, taking roughly two hours for the dialogue about their business. The Kukuza Rapid Diagnostic looks under the hood and evaluates 16 functional areas—such as growth plans, operations, competition, debt, and supply chain—that affect a company’s ability to sustain growth.

Developed from RoseRyan’s consulting work with growing businesses since 1993, primarily in Silicon Valley and the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, the diagnostic zeroes in on whether there’s an internal infrastructure that can deliver steady, reliable financial information for decision-making and outside eyes. According to Roberson, any missing pieces will hold back fast-moving companies at critical times.

Comments Roberson, who recently joined the NCIA’s Banking & Financial Services Committee, “People leading cannabis companies get to talk about their favorite subject—their business! This powerful exercise provides perspective from our expert finance and accounting team, and it will benefit any company that wants to dig into what they’ll need to move ahead with their big plans.”

Scorecard Provides Easy to Understand Feedback

During the course of the conversation, all 16 functional areas are scored on a 1-5 scale, as the cannabis company quickly identifies strengths and weaknesses in its financial strategy and operations. Then a consolidated score in the form of a dashboard displays the company’s overall financial readiness, providing valuable information that is easy to understand and act upon. In areas of weakness, the company will be advised on what’s needed to improve.

This overall snapshot is also a window into the company’s operational health. “The diagnostic’s readout provides a high level view of a company’s situation, and one of its real gifts is the chance for leaders to easily internalize what’s needed,” comments Roberson, whose article on the elements of a strong financial foundation for companies was published this month in Marijuana Venture.

The firm draws upon the full strengths and capabilities of its parent company, RoseRyan, which entered the cannabis sector in 2014 and has more than 110 finance and accounting pros.

I believe their approach to analyzing consumer data will provide companies with a huge competitive advantage, especially to those trying to gain market share as well as those determining how to enter the cannabis market”, noted Jeff Stein, VP of Consumer Research Around Cannabis.

Dr. Paul Crowe, President of Radium Research, added “Consumer Research Around Cannabis conducts over 110,000 surveys every year across 85 US markets and the greater Toronto area. That’s a huge sandbox to play in and we’re very excited to be able to bring these types of advanced analyses to help our mutual clients. It really allows even small companies to have big insights into their markets and consumers.”

The attached sample analysis, which uncovers the demographic and behavioral characteristics most predictive of one’s attitude toward recreational cannabis legalization in Illinois, highlights the kind of unique insights that this partnership enables.
