WanaCapsxr, a family of extended release cannabis capsules that provide medicinal benefits for up to 12 hours, are now available in class specific options–Indica and Sativa–for the High THC formulation of the product.

Class specific products allow patients more options for symptom relief, with Sativa known as a more energetic selection, while Indica is associated with a more relaxing effect. Wana Brands, using technology from Cannabics Pharmaceuticals, developed the extended release formula and offers the product in five formulations: High THC Indica, High THC Sativa, High THC Hybrid, High CBD Hybrid and Balanced THC:CBD Hybrid.

All formulations are available in both the medical and adult-use markets. The unique extended release formula allows patients to dose once or twice daily without the frequent need to re-dose. The world’s first extended release cannabis capsules, Wana Brands is expanding the launch of its capsules and other products through partnerships in emerging national and international markets, with plans to enter new markets over the next few years. The extended release capsules address a major concern of cannabis patients as compared to other forms of ingestion, which is that the initial high peak of cannabinoid activity after administration can cause uncomfortable side effects such as dizziness. Composed from food grade materials, the XR formulation prolongs the effects of the active compounds by 25-35% in comparison to non-formulated capsules, extending the beneficial effects of the capsule up to 12 hours. WanaCapsxr provide a stable and discreet option for patients seeking dosing alternatives. The capsules contain two types of oil-based compounds known as “fractions,” which bind with the cannabinoids in different ways. The first fraction is highly bio-available and provides a quick onset of the therapeutic effects, generally within 20-30 minutes of taking the capsule. This first release of cannabinoids lasts up to six hours. The second fraction then takes effect, releasing the remaining cannabinoids gradually for a steady, long lasting experience.

Wana Brands is the leading edibles company in Colorado, experiencing consistent month-over-month growth of market share in the competitive market. Wana Brands dominates, owning 23% of the Colorado market share, with the next closest competitor at 12%, according to BDS Analytics 2017 May brand share report.
