SAFE & SAFER Banking Acts: The Secure and Fair Enforcement Regulation (SAFER) Banking Act (previously “SAFE”) would ensure that all businesses—including State-sanctioned cannabis businesses—have fair access to lending, deposit accounts, insurance, and other financial services. The legislation also creates common-sense standards for banks and credit unions to maintain customer relationships and to expand access to deposit accounts for underbanked groups.
The SAFE Banking Act was successfully passed by the previousHouse of Representatives by a vote of 321-101. The SAFER Banking Act was passed out of the current Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee by a vote of 14-9.
MORE Act: The Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act entirely and also addresses issues like criminal justice reform, the needs of small business, and taxation.
The MORE Act was successfully passed by the previousHouse of Representatives by a vote of 220-204.
