BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

The Business Development Manager will collaborate with the sales and membership teams, as well as other staff to achieve revenue and membership goals. We are looking for a qualified sales professional with 3-5 years experience and an established track record of success in nonprofit fundraising and/or background working in direct product/services sales environments. Cannabis industry experience is preferred but not mandatory. Demonstrated competency using software such as HubSpot, Salesforce and G Suite required. This position may work remotely or in our Washington, D.C. office. Moderate-to-frequent business travel is required.

The Business Development Manager is responsible for:

  • Prospecting cannabis businesses for membership and event sponsorship sales, via cold-calling, networking, email, events, and in-person meetings;

  • Articulating the association’s value proposition to decision-makers to assess buying interest;

  • Promoting the association’s products and services with various management levels and professionals across business categories in the cannabis industry;

  • Qualifying all sales leads based upon specific lead qualification criteria definitions;

  • Attending cannabis industry events and occasionally traveling to events to network and prospect, and represent the association;

  • Handling additional tasks as needed, related to NCIA’s membership recruitment efforts, events, and organizational management;

  • Upholding NCIA’s core values which include being accountable, ready for change, invested, team-oriented and responsive. 

The Business Development Manager will report to NCIA’s Director of Sales and Partnerships and is part of the Business Development Department. This position is a regular, full-time employee, and is eligible to participate in NCIA’s benefits, including health, dental, and life insurance fully covered for the employee, a matched 401(k) plan, a flexible work schedule, and a 4-day work week twice per month. This position will be compensated through a combination of salary and commissions, with a starting annual base salary of $48,000 plus potential of $50,000 in annual commissions.
