Success & Momentum
Momentum surrounding federal cannabis reform is building on Capitol Hill. On June 18, 2019, the House of Representatives passed the Blumenauer-McClintock-Norton Amendment that would prevent any federal funds from being used to target individuals and businesses that are in compliance with state, territorial, or tribal cannabis laws. On September 25th, the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act (HR 1595) passed through the House of Representatives, with a vote of 321-103. This bill provides a safe harbor for financial institutions who chose to service the cannabis industry, and also increases public safety, transparency, and accountability. The House has done their job, now it moves to the Senate side.
This progress does not just happen on it’s own. It happens because of our collective voice supporting the members of congress who enact this change on the floor. Help us support these members through the NCIA-PAC.
