Moving Toward Earth-Digestible Packaging in Cannabis

Hear from NCIA’s Packaging and Labeling Committee abuot moving toward earth-digestible packaging in cannabis with Nick McCormick and Kelly Williams today on NCIA’s Cannabis Industry Voice.

There’s a lot of packaging in our industry and our guests are on the Packaging and Labeling Committee at NCIA, and while some of the packagings is really interesting and innovative, what’s also true is that it contributes to waste and there’s an environmental sustainability issue that as an industry we need to address. So we start by talking more in general and about the environmental issues with all the packaging in our industry. Then we dive into the direction they think the cannabis industry should be going, as well as what changes can we make to get fewer plastics and cardboard to hold our products. The challenge here is that we need our products to be CHILD-PROOF, and honestly, sometimes they’re so hard to open, they’re Bethany-proof, and adult-proof, too.

Nick McCormick has over 25 years in the printing industry, ranging from graphic design and production to his current role in business development. Nick specializes in flexible packaging with an emphasis on food & beverage; cannabis, wine & spirits. He serves on NCIA’s Packaging & Labeling Committee helping to mold packaging guidelines for the cannabis industry. Taylor is one of the top five graphic communications companies in North America. Headquartered in North Mankato, Minnesota. Kelly Williams is a supplier for Nick’s company, Taylor, and is a recognized thought leader in the flexible packaging industry.
