Shield Compliance Releases Open Letter Urging Card Brands to Accept Cannabis Payments
Transparent, underwritten, and appropriately coded cannabis transactions will foster a safer payments ecosystem for all.
Shield Compliance (www.shieldbanking.com), a leading compliance platform for cannabis banking, released an Open Letter calling for the nation’s leading card brands, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express, and others, to reverse their policies of prohibiting financial institutions to offer payments services connected to their networks to licensed cannabis merchants.
The lack of access to debit and credit card payments is a significant hurdle obstructing the cannabis industry’s path to full legitimacy and has led many licensed businesses to find workarounds that mask otherwise legal transactions with the intention of confusing payment networks, processors, and acquiring and issuing banks. Not only does this restrict law enforcement’s ability to crack down on illegal operators and curtail the illicit market, but it also makes it difficult for card brands to identify illegal operators and creates confusion and additional costs for consumers.
“Banks and credit unions have demonstrated for nearly a decade that they can serve this industry without negative consequences by complying with FinCEN’s guidance on marijuana banking, and we believe the card brands can do the same,” said Tony Repanich, President and CEO of Shield Compliance. “Embracing cannabis payments aligns with the evolving landscape of legality and consumer demand and will foster a safer and more accessible payments ecosystem for all.”
“The progress Shield Compliance has made in helping financial institutions expand access to banking is improving safety across the industry while streamlining compliance and mitigating risk,” said Michael Beird, Founding Partner of the American Cannabis Bankers Association (ACBA). “Building trust and cooperation between the financial services community and the cannabis sector is a primary goal of the ACBA and is why we are working with Shield to address the payments challenge.”
A $71 Billion Industry with Strong Public Support The legal cannabis industry has experienced a significant transformation in the last decade. Today, 23 states have legalized adult-use cannabis, with 38 states and the District of Columbia allowing the medical use of cannabis products. There is also a steady rise in public support, with 68% of adults saying marijuana should be legal.
To sign the Open Letter and voice support for improving access to financial services in the legal cannabis industry, please visit www.fairbankingnow.com.
About Shield Compliance Shield Compliance transforms how financial institutions serve the legal cannabis market. Its purpose-built BSA/AML compliance management software solution sits behind the financial institution to simplify compliance, automate processes across multiple data sources, create efficiencies, unlock new revenue, and scale operations. With real-time monitoring and comprehensive reporting capabilities, Shield Compliance sets the standard for compliance excellence in cannabis banking. Las Vegas, NV, October 25, 2023 — An industry leader in post-harvest cannabis processing equipment, Triminator, has released their groundbreaking commercial hash washing machine, the Maker™. The cutting-edge new addition to their product line is poised to transform the solventless category, offering cannabis producers a high-yield, efficient, and scalable solution for producing premium ice water hash at a commercial capacity.
Ice water hash, also known as bubble hash, has garnered immense popularity among cannabis enthusiasts over the past decade due to its potent and pure cannabinoid profile. Traditionally, the process was labor-intensive and relied on manual hand-washing techniques, making large-scale production a daunting, and unfeasible challenge. However, with the advent of the Maker™, cannabis cultivators can now effortlessly streamline their hash-washing operations and meet the surging demand for top-quality solventless products.
The Maker’s introduction comes at an opportune time, as the solventless category continues to gain momentum within the cannabis industry. By investing in advanced equipment like the Maker™, cannabis businesses can ensure they stay ahead of the competition and capitalize on the lucrative solventless market.
As a pioneer in cannabis automation technology, Triminator’s team of expert engineers leveraged their extensive knowledge of manufacturing and cannabis technology to meticulously design the Maker™. With deep roots in commercial cannabis production, the Maker™ delivers unparalleled performance and reliability for large-scale ice water extraction.
“The Maker™ is a game-changer for cannabis producers seeking to optimize their ice water hash production. Its state-of-the-art features and precision-engineered components allow for seamless trichome separation for the highest-quality bubble hash. It is easily integrated into existing cannabis workflows and provides significant benefits in terms of productivity, efficiency, and product consistency,” stated Dana Mosman, founder of Triminator.
As cannabis producers strive to meet the rising demand for high-quality solventless products, the Triminator hash washer offers a groundbreaking solution that promises to elevate their production capabilities. The Maker™ features an all-in-one system that requires no additional parts for washing or collection. Unlike other hash washers on the market, the Maker™ is the only fully-equipped hash washer that comes complete and ready to operate out of the box at an affordable price.
With the Maker™, you can customize wash parameters and save settings for consistent results. Easily adjust RPM speed, run time, rest intervals, and total run time for endless washing possibilities.
Developed in collaboration with some of the best hash producers, the Triminator washer ensures optimized trichome separation with commercial-scale yields. With automatic wash cycles, producers save time and labor mixing and can complete multiple washes in one day. As a result, businesses can increase efficiency while reducing downtime, labor requirements, and operational costs.
The Maker™ is gentle on trichomes with the patent-pending, no-shear impeller that imitates the effects of hand washing by creating an effective yet gentle vortex for easy trichome separation. The perforated stainless steel false bottom protects your trichomes during the wash process allowing them to settle into a turbulent-free zone below the vortex. The washing environment stays ultra-cool to maintain optimal temperatures for trichome separation.
The Maker™ is designed to meet the demands of both small-scale boutique producers and large commercial cannabis operations, making it the perfect solution for businesses of all sizes. Durable and robust in its construction, the hash washer is made with stainless steel and food-safe materials, meeting the highest sanitary standards for any GMP-certified facility. Cleaning the hash washer is also fast and easy, reducing downtime between washes and allowing for a long service life for the machine. The compact footprint makes it an ideal addition to any production facility, optimizing space utilization without compromising on performance.
Incorporating user-friendly design elements, the Maker™ comes equipped with a built-in step stool that facilitates easy loading and unloading, eliminating the need for additional equipment or makeshift setups. This ergonomic addition not only streamlines the workflow but also minimizes strain on production teams, promoting a safer and more efficient environment.
Available in 20- and 60-gallon capacity models, producers can supercharge their production to fit their needs. The Maker™ is available now and can be purchased with special intro pricing through December 31, 2023. Connect with Triminator to learn more about the Maker™.

Las Vegas, NV, July 31, 2023 — Mobius, a global leader in post-harvest cannabis automation equipment, has taken a significant stride towards empowering the cannabis industry with their latest offering, the 2023 updated Guide to GMP-Certified Post-Harvest Processing. This comprehensive guide brings clarity and simplicity to the complex world of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as it relates to the cannabis industry and has been updated in several key areas for 2023.
Information and resources about GMP are hard to find and difficult to understand, especially in relation to cannabis processing and commercial equipment. GMP plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, quality, and consistency of products in various industries, including pharmaceuticals, food, and cosmetic production. In the rapidly growing cannabis industry, adherence to GMP principles is becoming increasingly required and is further noted as a best practice among top cultivators in the industry.

As regulatory standards continue to evolve, businesses need to stay informed and adapt to the changing landscape to thrive in this competitive sector.
While the Mobius GMP Guide is not a new resource offered by the company, the document has been fully updated with the latest information and regulations surrounding GMP and cannabis. One of the newer additions to the guide is refreshed and updated cleaning recommendations as well as information for GMP procedures that applies to the expanded list of equipment that includes the full Mobius Automation Suite.
Key features of the guide include: an in-depth explanation of GMP principles, how GMP applies specifically to cannabis processing, and the consequences of not following GMP; breakdown of GMP implementation (covering essential aspects of cultivation, extraction, production, and packaging); information about equipment, personnel, sanitation, and cleaning guidelines for post-harvest processing and best practices for quality control, documentation, and record-keeping to ensure traceability and accountability; preparation steps for getting operations GMP-ready including tips for training, facility maintenance, and sanitation protocols; additional resources and a sample audit form.

Leafwire Launches the Largest Retargeting Audience in the Cannabis B2B industry, Reaching 3 Million+ Connected Devices
Now advertisers can purchase ads across 10,000 + sites, like CNN, ESPN and USA Today and target only a true cannabis business audience.
“We saw a gap in the marketplace and realized we needed a new way to reach the incredibly diverse cannabis industry. That led us to build the ‘Leafwire B2B Cannabis Omnichannel.’”— Peter Vogel
DENVER, CO, UNITED STATES, June 21, 2023/ EINPresswire.com / — Traditionally, it’s been almost impossible for advertisers to reach the cannabis business community through banner ads on mainstream ad networks, utilizing programmatic advertising.
It’s an incredibly diverse community that is very difficult to target. There is no single gender, age, geography, job type, company type or purchasing behavior that defines cannabis business professionals; cannabis professionals can be growers, budtenders, greenhouse builders, accountants, scientists, marketers, lawyers, investors and more.
Cannabis consumers and enthusiasts are easier to reach through a variety of large cannabis shopping platforms like Weedmaps, Leafly and Dutchie, but that’s not the cannabis business community. A B2B solution has been sorely missing.
In conjunction with MediaJel and one of the world’s largest ad networks with 10,000 + web sites, Leafwire has built the largest re-targeting audience in the cannabis business industry. Through partnerships with multiple cannabis news sites and some of the largest conferences in the industry, Leafwire has amassed an audience of cannabis business professionals, consisting of more than 500,000 recognizable ‘digital fingerprints’ creating the ‘Leafwire B2B Cannabis Omnichannel.’ Now advertisers can purchase ads across 10,000 + sites, like CNN, ESPN and USA Today and target only a true cannabis business audience.
“The cornerstone of effective marketing is reaching the right audience at the right time. This is where the ‘Leafwire B2B Cannabis Omnichannel’ shines – it allows for a targeted approach that’s as precise as a well-located real estate investment. In the vast expanse of the online world, your ads can now land exactly where you want them to, reaching the cannabis business community wherever they may be.” said Jake Litke, CEO of MediaJel.
Those 500,000 digital fingerprints were matched to more than 3.2 million devices (including phones, tablets and desktop computers), and the ‘Leafwire B2B Cannabis Omnichannel’ can be targeted on all of those 3.2 million devices.
The beauty of programmatic advertising is the frequency with which you can reach your targeted audience. CPMs (cost per thousand impressions) tend to be around $20, so for a $10K campaign, you are able to show 500,000 impressions (or ad units) to your targeted audience. The goal is typically to show your banners to a specific person between 20-30 times in order to drive engagement (that’s the modern equivalent of the ‘7X’ marketers used to use as a Golden Rule). Doing the math, if you have 500,000 impressions, you have a chance to show your banners/ads to 16,666 professionals – 30X each (16,666 individuals X 30 times = 500,000 impressions).
In addition, programmatic advertising is based on optimization; if a campaign starts off showing ads on 2,000 sites, the optimization engine begins to show more ads on sites producing clicks, so the campaign is continuously improving as it runs longer – like fine wine, it gets better with age.

Cal NORML / ASA Lobby Day Coming to Sacramento on Monday, May 8
All Californians are invited to attend the California NORML/Americans for Safe Access Citizen Lobby Day on Monday, May 8 in Sacramento. The event will bring supporters from across the state to meet with their state representatives and make our voices heard on pending legislation affecting the rights of cannabis consumers in California.
Past lobby days have helped bring about reforms such as employment rights for cannabis consumers, medical rights for organ transplant and pain patients who use medical cannabis, and cannabis tax reform, among other ongoing issues.
Lobby Day attendees will meet in the morning at the Capitol Event Center, where they will learn about pending bills and get lobbying tips. In the afternoon, participants will meet with lawmakers or their staffers. The day will end with an afterparty and reception on the patio at Cafeteria 15L.
Some of the bills on which we expect to be lobbying are:
SB 302 (Stern) would extend Ryan’s Law by requiring health-care facilities to allow (non-inhaled) use of medical cannabis by all patients with chronic diseases, instead of just terminal illnesses.
AB 374 (Haney) and SB 285 (Allen), would allow the sale of fresh food and beverages at consumption rooms. The Haney bill would also let them host paid entertainment and events.
SB 512 (Bradford), would end double taxation of cannabis by excluding excise and local taxes from the sales tax.
SB 51 (Bradford)would allow the extension of provisional licenses for equity applicants for up to five years, and to continue issuing equity provisional retail licenses indefinitely.
AB 1094 (Wicks) would prohibit drug and alcohol testing of pregnant or perinatal women by medical or social workers without informed consent.
AB 1917 (Bonta)and SB 508 (Laird), would cut burdensome CEQA regulations that are delaying cannabis licensing, in particular the critical and timely transition from temporary to permanent licenses.
AB 1111 (Pellerin)would enable small licensed cannabis producers to vend their products at a limited number of licensed, locally approved cannabis events annually.
SB 540 (Laird – SUPPORT)would create an informational brochure to educate new users on cannabis risks and effects.
AB 1207 (Irwin – OPPOSE) would broadly restrict labeling of fruit flavors and ban coloring in edibles.
Founded in 1972, California NORML is a nonprofit member-supported organization that advocates for the rights of cannabis consumers in California. Join Cal NORML and help fight for our rights!

Eagle Protect Warns Cannabis Industry of Glove Contamination Threat
Cross-contamination entering the supply chain have led to several product recall incidents
(SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.) Feb. 16, 2023 – Eagle Protect, specialist supplier of disposable gloves and PPE, is warning cannabis cultivators and processors about the potential risk of microbial cross-contamination from gloves, which may lead to costly product recalls and even threaten the health and safety of cannabis consumers, particularly those who are immunocompromised.
The culmination of Eagle Protect’s five-year study on the risk of glove contamination included findings from the independent testing of the interior and exterior glove surfaces of 26 different brands. The testing and analysis revealed fecal indicators on up to 50% of gloves, potentially harmful yeast species, and distinct genera of fungi including Penicillium, Cladosporium and Aspergillus – all capable of causing cross-contamination in cannabis-related supply chains. As for the source, significant contributing factors that have led to documented cases of glove contamination include inadequate process controls, putrid water quality, poor regulatory standards, and lax oversight and enforcement.
“As sales of cannabis and cannabis-related products continue to grow, so does the risk of product recalls – which can have costly consequences, regardless of the manufacturer’s size,” said Steve Ardagh, CEO of Eagle Protect. “Among the many case studies we reviewed, the threat of bacterial, fungal, and allergen-related contamination may have been avoided if the industry adhered to higher glove compliance standards for handling products. Considering the different microbial testing thresholds across the U.S., it’s important to stay up to date on the regulations and requirements for cannabis-related products on a state-by-state basis.“
The FDA previously identified inadequate glove manufacturing process controls, leading to gloves contaminated with Aspergillus sp. and Fusarium sp. and recalled from the market. Investigations have also shown that damp boxed gloves can be contaminated with Aspergillus species. Eagle’s recent research findings give reason for concern, especially when combined with previous FDA recalls related to the presence of Aspergillus and Fusarium species and deaths caused by severe cutaneous aspergillosis infections. A cannabis-related recall due to gloves contaminated by ortho-phenylphenol (OPP) fungicide, has also been well documented.
With glove imports having dropped considerably since Aug. 2022, the industry is overstocked – awash with poor quality gloves dating back to the scarcity of supply immediately following the Covid outbreak. Several instances of unscrupulous manufacturers attempting to import tens of millions of filthy, re-used, and even fraudulent disposable gloves, have made global headlines.
For glove and PPE suppliers, recall prevention and consumer health begins with setting high manufacturing standards and the implementation of in-depth quality control measures. Stringent, third-party testing procedures, product traceability, and routine auditing, are all part of Eagle Protect’s proprietary Delta Zero™ glove quality verification program – indicative of the company’s commitment to mitigating and eliminating the threat of supply chain contamination. Delta Zero verified Eagle gloves have undergone third-party laboratory testing, passing a stringent set of standards that guarantee adherence to the highest levels of consistency, safety, and performance. Eagle’s certification includes a five-factor verification process, authenticity of quality raw materials, and the absence of unsafe chemicals, toxins, and microbial contaminants – guaranteeing against fungal, microbial, and pesticide-related contaminants. All of the aforementioned threats have the potential to cause cross-contamination of any type of cannabis-related products.
“Our customers are assured of high-quality and performance products, manufactured to the strictest standards of safety, hygiene, and performance.” said Ardagh. “As included in our unique Eagle Protect Standard, Delta Zero solidifies our commitment to reliable quality assurance, safeguarding our customers and consumers.” For further company information on Eagle Protect and their Delta Zero glove quality verification program, please visit https://eagleprotect.com.

Cilicon Debuts the Completely Redesigned Reoregin™: An Absolute Paragon of Ceramic Heating Technology for Cannabis Vaporizers That Leads an Unbeatable Performance
Shenzhen, China – CILICON®, the world-leading innovative technology cannabis vaporizer company, has announced its latest ceramic heating technology Reoregin™. With a substantial technological leap designed to disinter all possible levels of terpenes’ flavor and aroma, Reoregin™’s heating component is equipped with an enlarged heating source that enables a lower vaporizing temperature setting and an even heat distribution system to restore the most original terpene flavor, while offering a stunning fluent vaping experience. The amazing Reoregin™ also features greater ceramic porosity and a broad cuboid mesh heating coil to make an even more instant yet balanced vaporizing performance. Reoregin™ design can maximize the actual heating area in the heating element while reducing air blockage to deliver a natural, fast, and explosive vaping experience.
“Our team has great passion and confidence in innovating cannabis vaporizers and the flagship technology. We’re excited to unveil the Reoregin™. It is one of the most revolutionary breakthroughs among all innovations we have done so far because it’s designed to retrieve the most natural terpene flavor for all kinds of cannabis oil.” said Lee Pan, Cilicon’s senior product manager. “I believe no one wants to wait before vaping nor tasting the faded flavor of cannabis vapor. To overcome the plight, we deviseda new heating element structure that enables a lower heating temperature by as much as 30% compared to other ceramic heating technologies. The initiative is realized with a brand-new matched mesh heating coil and tested numerous times with live resin and rosin. Our latest innovation fundamentally helps to recover every terpene element in the cannabis oil and provide an intensive and elevated mouthfeel.”
Full Vaporization Design: Highlighting Your Precious Cannabis Oil
Reoregin™ introduces a groundbreaking even heat distribution system for the vaping industry. The newly invented mesh heating coil has been enlarged and fully covered on the two sides of the hollow cuboid in ceramic. The revolutionary heating coil is designed to significantly boost the efficiency of heat utilization by making every part of ceramic thoroughly heated – allowing the temperature of the outmost surface to equal the internal surface, avoiding ceramic embrittlement by partially repeated high heat, and promoting faster cannabis oil evaporation in an even heated ceramic.
Low-Temperature Vaporization: The Ultimate Natural Flavor
Low-temperature vaporization can be enabled by the extraordinary heating system design in the ceramic heating core, which pushes the boundaries of what’s possible for a ceramic heating system up to date. The enhancement of the overall safety and performance while allowing faster heating and retaining more terpene molecules has helped us to have a safe, instant, and more consistent vaping experience. The enlarged mesh heating coil on the surface of the hollow cuboid allows a lower temperature to heat the ceramic as a whole. It decreased heating temperature by 30%, thus requiring less heating time, making it safer with no exploding possibility, and achieving next-level vaping performance with more retained terpene molecules. Reoregin™ now has optimized the instant vaping and natural cannabis flavor at an unprecedented level while simultaneously extending the device lifespan.
With Cilicon’s ongoing mission of leading innovation in the cannabis industry, Reoregin™ represents an eye-opening possibility in flavor restoration. Based on the brand-new sophisticated design and incredible vaping mouthfeel, Reoregin™ could pair with all kinds of cannabis oil, helping enhance the vaping quality and accentuating your cannabis oil quality at all times.

More than 20 thousand people are expected, circulating among the exhibitors and other simultaneous events.
The event is being held by the Brazilian Association of Cannabis Industries (ABICANN), with production by the Comunicar Bem agency. Cannabis culture for the coming years. What products and technologies should arrive here in 2023?
Business opportunities for companies and professionals
A pavilion with tiers of different sizes; digital advertising on screens and outdoor communication; workshop areas; space to contribute ideas using the scenarios; and encouraging networking actions are some of the opportunities that professionals and companies can already guarantee, reserving spaces until January 29, 2023.
Reserve for Exhibitors: https://pt.surveymonkey.com/r/RJCGC8H
Space for all audiences: far beyond capital
Patient associations, growshops and tobacconists, individual entrepreneurs and self employed professionals, doctors, pharmacists, psychologists, veterinarians, agronomists, laboratory and industrial technicians will have guaranteed places, albeit limited! Important to reserve in advance at registration.
An outdoor fair with cultural and craft products will be setting the stage for a space for all tribes, audiences and tastes. Products that require health registration must be previously informed and evaluated, to enable their commercialization.
21 Economic Sectors in Brazil: Medical Cannabis and Industrial Hemp
A series of Technical and Scientific Reports, produced at the request of ABICANN, indicate that Cannabis/Hemp is capable of recovering the environment, improving human and animal health, generating jobs, developing new businesses and ventures, and moving the national economy. There are more than US$ 30 billion per year, which must enter the Brazilian economy until 2030, according to projections by the main business and industrial entity in defense of the Cannabis culture in the country.
Brazil was behind in health issues and generation of opportunities around Cannabis. Continuous information, the defense of serious professionals and the birth of business, scientific and social organizations can now come together in pro-patient associations, in innovation and research centers and in the formation of companies. It is these groups that provide access to pharmaceutical-grade cannabis products, which find their way into Brazilian pharmacies or are delivered directly to patients seeking medicines made from the plant.
In the years to come, regulatory bodies should be discussing proposals for an infinite range of products for health, genetics, nutrition and to produce almost everything that is seen with the fibers and other raw materials of Cannabis and the hemp variety.
From medicines to clothing and animal feed. More than 90 countries in the world have regulated the varieties of Cannabis in some way and cause millions in taxes. And in Brazil, when are we going to regularize it?
It is time to review our concepts to understand that it is a billion dollar economy, and it will be positive for Brazilians to professionalize, because there is already a global climate in search of minds, natural resources and alliances in Brazil, valuing the impacts of protagonism economic and social that it generates in the member countries of the Americas.

S2S Insurance Specialists Releases Insuring Cannabis 2022/2023 Report: “Year-End Trends & Analysis – How Cannabis Businesses Should Prepare for 2023”
BOCA RATON, FL.; December 6, 2022 – S2S Insurance Specialists, an independent insurance broker focused exclusively on providing seed-to-sale insurance coverages for cannabis and ancillary businesses nationwide, released its Insuring Cannabis 2022/2023 Report: “2022 Year-End Cannabis Insurance Trends & Analysis – How Cannabis Businesses Should Prepare for 2023.” The reportincludes the top five (5) trends that are impacting what policies cannabis businesses will need next year – no matter their size – to protect their companies, products, C-suite, and investments.
“As the cannabis industry continues to grow and enter the mainstream with recreational, adult-use marijuana now legal in nearly half of all U.S. states, we expect to see some significant changes impacting the industry in 2023,” said Eric Rahn, Managing Director. “The industry outlook remains positive, but there are several important trends we are seeing that will impact the insurance coverages cannabis businesses need to ensure they are full protected against the top risks they could face in the imminent future.”
For example, the industry continued to see a spike in litigation spanning all sectors in 2022, particularly as it relates to investor suits, trademark violation claims, and employment practices/contract disputes. In addition, the cannabis industry should brace itself for a surge in product liability lawsuits and consumer class actions in 2023, as the market matures, and new studies emerge on the health and safety of high-THC products. Following each of the top five trends, S2S Insurance Specialists’ Analysis details specific insurances that will be important for cannabis businesses in 2023, including Product Liability, Directors & Officers (D&O) Liability, IP Enforcement/Defense, and Employers Protection Liability (EPLI), to name a few.

Eteros Technologies Acquires Bloom Automation
Automation Leader Eteros Acquires Bloom to Deliver Ground-Breaking Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence to the Cannabis Industry
Las Vegas, NV, November 3, 2022 — Eteros Technologies USA, Inc., a global leader in cannabis harvesting equipment, acquired Bloom Automation, creating the first agricultural technology (Ag-tech) company focused on the post-harvest cannabis market.
Founded in Canada in 2016, Eteros Technologies is now the premier manufacturer of cannabis automation equipment globally. As the parent company of the Triminator and Mobius brands, Eteros seeks to provide post-harvest processing solutions for all levels of cannabis production. The acquisition of Bloom strengthens Eteros’ ability to deliver on that goal by bringing computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) to cannabis producers.
Although Ag-tech has been one of the fastest-growing sectors in conventional farming and is expected to top 15.3 billion in 2025, Ag-tech in cannabis is still in its infancy. Eteros hopes to change this with the acquisition of Bloom. “As competitive as the cannabis market is today, this is only expected to increase as the market matures. In cannabis, there are so many areas where producers use manual labor because they need human intelligence. At Eteros, we see a tremendous opportunity to implement Bloom AI into harvest automation to gain a competitive advantage. By combining Bloom’s technology with Mobius, we can equip operators with a powerful new data set to help them make better decisions and enhance their level of automation,” said Aaron McKellar, CEO of Eteros.
This Ag-tech integration comes at a critical time for cannabis cultivators facing price reductions of up to 62% in mature markets like Colorado. These price reductions are forcing cultivators nationwide to evaluate their harvesting methods. Although many of the processes have been mechanized previously, Eteros believes that integrating Bloom technology, which uses a sensor array and AI-driven algorithms to collect data, will improve the precision, accuracy, and efficiency of existing automation. In addition, the technology will enable an entirely new wave of processing capabilities, including defoliation, harvest weight predictions, pathogen identification, and foliage density assessment, which was one of the main drivers for the acquisition. “Our mission has always been to bring AI and robotics to all areas of the cannabis industry. By joining Eteros, we can seamlessly create intelligent automation across a broad ecosystem of new and existing products,” said Jon Gowa, the CEO of Bloom.
With a shared vision for empowering cannabis farmers with actionable data, Eteros and Bloom expect to quickly begin offering turn-key AI automation across a broad spectrum of applications. For more information, contact Eteros at info@eteros.com.

Cal NORML to Celebrate 50th Anniversary on 11/12 in San Francisco
Cal NORML to Celebrate 50th Anniversary on 11/12in San Francisco Event Will Commemorate 1972’s CMI Legalization Initiative
The public and press are invited to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of California NORML and commemorate the 1972 California Marijuana Initiative, the country’s first cannabis legalization ballot measure, on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 1-5 PM at Meadow, 60 13th St. in San Francisco.
The event is sponsored by Meadow, the top-rated software solution for cannabis dispensaries, and by PAX, a global cannabis brand headquartered in San Francisco.
“Cal NORML has been at the center of legalization efforts in California for five decades,” said David Hua, CEO and Co-Founder of Meadow. “At Meadow, we have always looked for ways to support the collective effort of pushing cannabis legalization forward, and we’re proud to be part of this event in the spirit of continuing to build community while honoring the history and future potential of the cannabis plant.”
“Supporting this historic event and California NORML is part of PAX’s strong commitment to Social Reform, Sustainability, and Safe Access in cannabis,” said Laura Fogelman, Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs at PAX. “This team has been at the forefront of the movement for more than 50 years, and we’re thrilled to be able to celebrate not only this milestone, but the outsized impact they’ve had on our communities along the way.”
Cal NORML, the state chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, sprung from the organization Amorphia, which financed CMI with sales of rolling papers. Although the measure did not pass, it lead to the decriminalization of marijuana possession in California (the 1975 Moscone Act), and ultimately to greater reforms in California, the US, and the world.
Leaders from the CMI initiative will share their reminiscences, live or via Zoom. Among them will be:
Keith Stroup – NORML’s Founder and Legal Counsel
Gordon Brownell – Cal NORML’s original director
Michelle & Michael Aldrich – Amorphia co-founders
John Sinclair – Michigan-based activist about whom John Lennon wrote a song when he was jailed for possessing two joints
Ed Rosenthal – cannabis cultivation expert and activist; aka “Ask Ed”
Bruce Margolin – LA NORML director
The event will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Cal NORML, which has advocated for the rights of cannabis consumers in California since 1972. Cal NORML was instrumental in the passage of Prop. 215 (1996), the country’s first medical marijuana law, and this year two Cal NORML sponsored bills were signed into law: AB 2188 to protect the employment rights of cannabis users, and AB 1954 to protect pain patients’ rights to medication. The organization has recently published a voter’s guide to the November 8 California election.
Food and drinks will be served, a memorabilia action will be held, and live music will be heard. Attendees are invited to Dress Like It’s 1972 (optional, but fun).
Suggested donation is $50. Buy tickets. Proceeds will benefit Cal NORML’s continued advocacy for cannabis consumers’ rights in California.
AGENDA:
Doors open: 1 PM
Program: 1:30 – 2:30 PM The 1972 California Marijuana Initiative – A Groundbreaking Moment for Marijuana Reform
Auction and Live Music: 2:30 – 4 PM
The press is invited to attend. RSVP to ellen@canorml.org. You can also contact us for graphics to include in stories.

Cannecht Announces Membership Badging Program with the National Cannabis Industry Association
Bend, Oregon 10.12.2022 Cannecht is proud to announce that the NCIA is the first industry association to be accepted into the Cannecht Membership Badging Program. This program verifies and validates cannabis business owners and prospective service partners using association logos (“badges”). Anyone (or any business) on the cannecht platform selects associations they are a member of. Then, cannecht validates against active member lists securely integrated with their partners, like NCIA.
Additional ratings on the cannecht platform extend the credibility of these partnerships. But, the real power of the cannecht platform is in its project and service matching functionality, which the cannecht team is excited to introduce to NCIA members.
In addition to existing new customer sign-up credits, cannecht is offering verified NCIA members additional “bonus” credits towards their first “deals” on the platform. The cannecht platform is always free for licensed cannabis operators. Now with the launch of the Membership Badging Program, it is even more accessible for professional service providers who are NCIA members.
The cannecht membership badging program is active today for all NCIA members. It will be coming soon to other cannabis industry associations in the United States.
“Super excited to partner with NCIA. And, in particular, with the shared vision of Amy and Bethany on that team. We look forward to seeing how our partnership evolves and how we can help members close more deals with less hassle than ever before,” says Pete Crawford, Founder & CEO of cannecht.
Amy Rose, Deputy Director of Sales & Partnerships at NCIA says, “We see great value in the notion of meaningful connections between our members and service partners in the industry, and look forward to working with cannecht as they grow.”

Big Win for Cannabis Technology and Manufacturing Companies
Eteros Wins Court Case In Favor Of Excluding “Marijuana-Related Drug Paraphernalia” Pursuant to the Authorization Exemption of the Controlled Substances Act
Las Vegas, NV, September 21, 2022 — Eteros Technologies USA, Inc., the industry leader in post-harvest cannabis automation equipment, announced the success of its court case regarding the authorization exemption of 21 U.S.C. Section 863(f)(1) of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). This was a case of first impression never before decided by a Federal or State court. It sets an important precedent for international trade in cannabis paraphernalia, recognizing that States’ authorization of persons to manufacture, distribute or possess cannabis paraphernalia triggers the “authorization exemption” which allows the importation of such products into the United States. The decision effectively instructs U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to permit the importation of cannabis paraphernalia into states that have legalized the manufacture, distribution, and possession of such items. With the cannabis market estimated at $38.8B in 2023 and multi-state operators’ capital expenditures representing up to 30% of revenue, this decision could impact billions of dollars of cannabis equipment imports annually.
Eterostraces its roots back to Surrey, British Columbia when in 2016, founder Aaron McKellar and a core group of engineers from diverse backgrounds and a passion for innovation and “divergent thinking” began manufacturing equipment for Canada’s newly legalized cannabis industry. In 2019, Eteros, the parent company of the Mobius and Triminator brands, expanded sales from Canada into the US to help support farmers growing now federal-legal hemp and the growing market of state-legal cannabis.
In April 2021, Eteros attempted to import sub-assembly components used to manufacture the Mobius M108S cannabis trimming machine into the Port of Blaine, Washington. On inspection, CBP deemed the parts prohibited “drug paraphernalia,” citing the Federal Controlled Substances Act. Eteros engaged counsel who challenged CBP’s determination by arguing that Washington State’s legalization of cannabis and related paraphernalia triggers the authorization exemption, serving to exclude importations of cannabis paraphernalia from the federal prohibition. The federal authorization exemption states that Section 863 shall not apply to “any person authorized by local, State, or Federal law to manufacture, possess, or distribute such items[.]” CBP ultimately disagreed with Eteros’ legal arguments and Eteros filed an action in the U.S. Court of International Trade to get a definitive court ruling on the meaning of the authorization exemption of Section 863(f)(1).
After months of litigation, CIT Judge Gary S. Katzmann ruled in favor of Eteros, confirming that state law authorizing the manufacture, possession, and distribution of cannabis harvesting equipment (and other cannabis-related paraphernalia) exempts Eteros from the prohibition against importing such merchandise into the United States, at least insofar as the goods are imported into a State like Washington which authorizes manufacture, possession, and distribution of cannabis-related paraphernalia.
“The Court’s decision today is a huge win for the cannabis industry. States’ authorization of persons to manufacture, possess, and/or distribute marijuana-related drug paraphernalia serves to trigger the federal authorization exemption, therefore exempting cannabis-related paraphernalia from the import prohibitions which prevent the importation of all other forms of drug paraphernalia,” said Eteros Technologies’ legal counsel, Richard O’Neill, of Neville Peterson LLP.
“NCIA commends Eteros for challenging the Customs and Border Patrol on this important issue and bringing about this win for the legal cannabis industry. Legitimate businesses all over the world are serving the legal cannabis industry, which generates hundreds of thousands of U.S. jobs. Hopefully, this decision will ensure that these law-abiding businesses will no longer face unfair impediments to importation or exportation of legal products across our borders”, said Aaron Smith, Co-founder, and CEO of The National Cannabis Industry Association.
The ruling comes during a pivotal time in the agricultural evolution of the cannabis industry. Cannabis cultivators are increasingly automating their post-harvest workflow and rely on equipment from innovators like Mobius and Triminator to keep pace with ever-evolving cannabis markets.
