New cannabis markets attract hundreds, even thousands of applicants, but only a select group will receive one of the limited cannabis licenses available. To be one of the chosen few, applicants must learn everything they can to make their application stand out, increasing their chances of winning a coveted license. VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 28th, 2019. Cova is the point-of-sale (POS) solution of choice for nearly every major cannabis retailer entering the coveted Ontario market. The key province has proven a serious challenge for private cannabis retail, with elusive licenses, strict regulations, and high expectations. With no room for error, 20 of the 25 retail license winners, including The Hunny Pot Cannabis Co., Ganjika, Ameri, Superette, Hobo Recreational Cannabis Store, Fire & Flower, and Spiritleaf are putting their trust in Cova software to ensure smooth sailing when they open their doors.
“Cannabis retail is far more complex than other retail environments, and compliance is a big factor,” said Gary Cohen, CEO of Cova. “We wanted to help our customers protect their hard-earned license and investment, that’s why we carefully designed our product to align with the nuances of cannabis laws and regulations. Our POS is equipped with automated compliance features like age verification, sales limit alerts and batch tracking to help prevent human error.”
Cova’s experience in technology and retail spans 20 years. Rooted in a successful enterprise environment, the passionate retail technology company brings robust resources and infrastructure, while remaining agile enough to incorporate customer feedback and keep pace with the evolving cannabis retail industry.
Cova’s advanced platform has earned industry favour largely because the easy-to-learn software is backed by comprehensive support. The company’s premier launch team and ongoing help with processes and best practices was vital to retailers like The Hunny Pot Cannabis Co. and Spiritleaf.
“We are very pleased to be opening our flagship Ontario Spiritleaf store in Kingston,” said Darren Bondar, President and CEO of Inner Spirit Holdings, the company behind the growing Spiritleaf franchise. “We trust Cova as our POS partner to support this milestone and power all our store operations. Having been in retail for 20 years, we know that an easy-to-use and reliable POS system is crucial for the success of a retail business. After spending over a year evaluating various POS systems, we chose Cova and have not looked back.”
The Kingston store marks the 6th location for Spiritleaf, Canada’s largest cannabis retail franchise concept. The Calgary-based company is rapidly expanding, with 50 approved permits in Alberta alone, over 20 franchise agreements in Ontario with more than 100 potential stores in development across the nation. Cova will continue to serve as a close partner to ensure that successful expansion.
In Toronto, The Hunny Pot Cannabis Co. – one of the first companies to be granted a license in the province – will open a 3500 square-foot store in the heart of downtown.
“As we approach the finish line, we couldn’t be more excited for April 1st and to welcome our first customers. As the first legal retailer to open its doors in the city of Toronto, we have a duty to set an example for current and future retailers, which means paying close attention to all of our vendors, from designers to POS software. We are confident in Cova’s overall approach, service offerings and their dedication to compliance, which is incredibly valuable to us at The Hunny Pot,” said Hunny Gawri, Owner of The Hunny Pot Cannabis Co.
“Cova is very excited to work with such dedicated entrepreneurs who share our values and commitment to propel the cannabis industry forward,” Cohen said. “These retailers worked hard to make an incredibly challenging deadline and meet all the government requirements. We’re committed to working hard and to continue earning their trust while we help them succeed in this incredibly exciting journey.”

Chantal M. Roberts will be part of an expert panel discussing claims trends among the cannabis market at Insurance Business’ 2019 Cannabis Coverage Masterclass in Denver
CMR Consulting Corporation’s president, Chantal M. Roberts, CPCU, AIC, RPA, will take part in an expert panel discussing cannabis claim trends and their potential hazards. Ms. Roberts has previously spoken on this issue at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Western Zone meeting and published an article about cannabis coverage and adjusting in the CPCU trade journal, Insights.
Ms. Roberts states, “The cannabis medical- and recreational-use growth has created a myriad of new risks for the business owner and lay person. Often times neither the insurer nor the insured are aware of the issues until a claim is presented. This is why discussing coverages not only with the insured’s agent or broker is important, but also the claims department because that is where the rubber meets the road.”

The one day seminar is perfect for agents, brokers, risk managers, and carriers.

Leafbuyer Technologies, Inc. Launches Blockchain
Leafbuyer Technologies, Inc. (OTC:LBUY) announced today it launched Phase One of its multiphase blockchain initiative on December 20, 2018. This first phase integrates with the Company’s loyalty platform, Leafbuyer Loyalty. This launch creates the bridge for cannabis consumers to eventually complete monetary transactions electronically with dispensaries and product companies. Now, within the Leafbuyer Loyalty application, consumers can choose to create their own blockchain wallet, called the Leafbuyer Wallet. Immediately, when a consumer creates a Leafbuyer Wallet account at a participating dispensary, a link is sent through SMS to their mobile device. Through this link, the consumer can view their account, track all transaction history, and see their loyalty points. Leafbuyer Wallet consumers can visit their account at any time through their smartphone without needing to be onsite at a participating dispensary.
“This first step in our blockchain initiative lays the groundwork for Leafbuyer to utilize blockchain and cryptocurrencies in our business plans,” said Leafbuyer CTO Michael Goerner. Blockchain allows for a digitized, decentralized, secure environment in which transactions are made and information is stored in a verifiable, permanent way. This leading, anti-fraud technology supports Leafbuyer’s initiative to provide transparency with its customers and consumers. “The sky is the limit with blockchain,” said Leafbuyer CEO Kurt Rossner. “The technology will help shape the cannabis industry and open doors to new revenue possibilities for Leafbuyer. We want to offer the highest level of transparency with customers, and blockchain will help us accomplish this goal.”

Cresco Labs Co-Founder And CEO Charles Bachtell Appointed To Cannabis Legalization Subcommittee Of Illinois Governor-Electt JB Pritzker’s Transition Team
Cannabis Legalization One of Four Subcommittees Under the Restorative Justice and Safe Communities Transition Committee
CHICAGO–December 12, 2018–Cresco Labs (CSE: CL) (“Cresco” or “the Company”), one of the largest verticallyintegrated multistate cannabis operators in the United States, today announced that Charles Bachtell, Co-founder and CEO of Cresco Labs, has been appointed to the Cannabis Legalization Subcommittee of Illinois Governor-elect JB Pritzker’s transition team. Cannabis Legalization is one of four subcommittees under the Governor-elect’sRestorative Justice and Safe Communities Transition Committee. Bachtell will collaborate other civic, judicial and social justice leaders named to the committee. Within the group, he is the only cannabis industry operator appointed to provide input that will shape the possibility of legal adult-use cannabis in Illinois.
The primary goals of the Cannabis Legalization Subcommittee are to evaluate and develop implementation recommendations for the Governor-elects platform on legalizing cannabis. As outlined during the campaign, these priorities include safely legalizing and decriminalizing cannabis, reviewing and commuting the sentences of people incarcerated for cannabis offenses in Illinois, intentionally including black and brown entrepreneurs in the planning and licensing of new cannabis dispensaries and reinvesting in communities hit hardest by the war on drugs and the legacy of mass incarceration.
“It is a great honor to be appointed by Governor-elect JB Pritzker to work with an esteemed group of leaders to advance legalization of cannabis in Illinois, a state that has been historically been one of the most highly regulated markets in the country,” said Bachtell. “At Cresco, we were one of the first cannabis companies to successfully win licenses and scale our business in this highly competitive market. We understand the Illinois market – our home state – very well and have been active in endorsing legislation that will protect and support the well-being of our citizens.”
Named one of the “Top 100 Cannabis Leaders of 2018” by Entrepreneur, Bachtell co-founded Cresco Labs in 2016 with the vision of normalizing and professionalizing the cannabis industry. Bachtell is an attorney with deep legal expertise in regulatory compliance and is recognized as one of the foremost authorities on regulatory affairs in some of the nation’s most heavily regulated industries. Cova Software Announces Plan to Retain Retail Cannabis Data in Canada
Cova to host all Canadian Customer Personally Identifiable Information in Microsoft Azure Canada-Central
Vancouver BC and DENVER, Sept. 26, 2018 – Retail cannabis point of sale software company and part of the iQmetrix group, Cova Software today announced plans to help retailers in Canada improve protection of retail data and Canadian consumer information by migrating all Canadian cannabis retail data to Azure Canada-Central located in Toronto. The move is set to begin September 27.
Currently, Cova hosts its data in the United States, which is in compliance with PIPEDA and relevant provincial legislation. However, ahead of legalization on October 17, Cova is creating a footprint in Canada to host all customer Personally Identifiable Information (PII). After the move, all Canadian customer data will remain in Canada.
“Cova understands how important data privacy and cannabis retail data protection are to our retailers and their customers, especially given the recent media attention on cross-border travel,” said Cova CEO, Gary Cohen. “That’s why we are going the extra mile to secure PII in Canada, over and above the current legal requirements. Moreover, as a Canadian company, we believe a proactive approach to data protection is critical, and by hosting data in Canada we are not only adding an extra layer of security, but we are giving retailers and their customers peace of mind.”
With a move to Canada, cannabis retailers operating throughout the country can trust that Cova Software’s integrated point of sale system is secured safely and in turn can assure customers that their information will remain in Canada, where cannabis is legal.
“We want retailers to understand how critical it is to find a cannabis retail technology partner that can protect sensitive cannabis retail data,” added Cohen. “Because Cova is in the iQmetrix family — a leading provider of retail management in the cellular industry — we have the most robust data protection solution in the cannabis industry. By sharing organizational infrastructure, we leverage this system at a much lower cost, truly taking advantage of the economies of scale that iQmetrix brings.”
The infrastructure that powers Cova Software securely handles more than $16 billion across 200 million transactions every year from Canadian and American companies. Cova is part of an organization that is SSAE18 and PCI-DSS level one complaint and undergoes third-party audits on internal process, change management, physical security, personnel backgrounds, and data infrastructure security.

InstantGMP, Inc. Announces Standard Operating Procedures for California Cannabis Regulations
Promoting Quality & Compliance in California’s Recreational Market
Cary, NC September 5th, 2018 – InstantGMP, Inc., the developer behind the InstantGMP™ suite of software, created a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) specifically for the recreational cannabis industry in California. When used together with InstantGMP™ Track & Trace software, companies can elevate their brand’s quality while adhering to current regulations. The SOPs are also ideal for companies in the Series A and Series B investment stages to demonstrate risk management to potential investors.
Working directly from the Bureau of Cannabis Control’s regulations, the more than 100 policies and procedures cover topics from leadership policies to transportation manifests and everything required in-between.
The cannabis SOPs provide licensees and potential licensees with affordable documentation in lieu of investing extensive resources into consultants and other experts. With the high entrance cost into the cannabis industry, companies can focus on growing their operations without breaking the bank. The cannabis SOPs are best utilized by taking advantage of a document management system called InstantGMP™ DMS.
InstantGMP, Inc. started in pharmaceuticals as an innovator of electronic batch records and seeing the regulatory confusion in other industries, sought to take the guesswork out of compliance while optimizing the production process.
In addition to cannabis SOPs, InstantGMP, Inc. offers sets for cannaceuticals; holders; distributors; packagers; and e-cigarette companies wishing to lay a quality foundation. For a full breakdown of InstantGMP, Inc.’s entire catalog, be sure to check out all available software and services.
About InstantGMP, Inc.
InstantGMP, Inc. is the creator behind the InstantGMP™ software that organizes and manages manufacturing processes with the goal of improving batch quality and consistency across several different industry verticals; including biopharmaceuticals, biotech, cannabis, CBD & hemp, cosmetics, dietary supplements, e-liquids, and medical devices. “Who’s Who in the Cannabis Industry” to Showcase Leading Individuals and Companies
Initially incubated by the National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) and now powered by Brainsy, the Who’s Who in the Cannabis Industry (http://www.whoswhoincannabis.com) was opened to the industry today to provide an interactive, knowledge-sharing, and promotional platform to showcase leading individuals and companies in the legal cannabis industry.
By all accounts, the cannabis industry is growing rapidly with some analysts estimating the global legal marijuana market will reach as much as USD 146.4 billion by the end of 2025. “As a highly regulated industry coming out of the shadows of prohibition in many U.S. states, one of the biggest challenges for legal cannabis operators and entrepreneurs is ensuring an open and free flow of knowledge that brings transparency to all aspects of the business,” stated Brian Christie, CEO of Brainsy. “We expect the Who’s Who in Cannabis will allow leading personalities and companies in the industry to share knowledge and become more accessible to government policymakers, entrepreneurs, cultivators, small businesses, researchers, dispensary owners, and others. We also hope the platform might become a forum to discuss social justice issues because the poor and communities of color are disproportionately arrested and incarcerated for marijuana possession.”
Qualified individuals featured in the Who’s Who will have access to cutting edge interactive tools to promote themselves and to generate business leads. The Who’s Who includes an “InCall” feature so that featured individuals can get paid for private one-on-one phone calls. “We are excited to have so many members of NCIA as part of the Who’s Who in Cannabis, offering their unique advice, experience and insight to help educate others about our industry,” stated Aaron Smith, Executive Director of NCIA. “We’re pleased to continue to work with Brainsy on this initiative and to know that our members will get discounts for services or sponsorships on the Who’s Who platform.” NCIA members will receive 10% off any premium listings or advertising sponsorships on the Who’s Who in Cannabis.
To get a discounted Personal Premium Profile or an SEO-enhanced Company Marketing Microsite on the Who’s Who, NCIA members should follow this link: https://www.whoswhoincannabis.com/a/ncia-member-discount

Newest Member Duramax Building Products joins NCIA and supports the Cannabis Industry
Many entrepreneurs and venture capitalists have joined the cannabis industry in the cultivation, processing, and distributing of cannabis products in California, Oregon, Colorado, Ohio, and many more states. The huge growth in the cannabis industry goes all the way up the supply chain and has affected many businesses in different industries as well. The booming commercialization of Cannabis has gained a lot of speculation in the states, but many rules and regulations have followed since.
The Cannabis Industry was deeply unregulated in the start of legalization with several incidents involving fires, explosions, and contaminations occurring as new startups formed. As a result, building codes and regulations have been implemented that involve certain criteria in fire grade for walls and standards for hygiene and sanitation. Although a hurdle for businesses in the Cannabis Industry, the standards generate new demand for specialized products and services in existing industries.
Currently a PVC panel supplier has found new demand in the emerging cannabis facility development. Duramax Building Products have been a distributor in Polyvinyl products since 1983. Duramax Trusscore, their PVC wall panel, has been used in many industries such as indoor farming, food processing, refrigerated warehouses, and more. By catering to several other industries, their product has evolved and adapted to follow several of the same regulations like the fire grade standard, FDA hygiene standard, and Building and Safety codes.
The convenience of installation and maintenance has given PVC panels a reputable name in the cultivation field. Startups and investors are looking at the long-term effects of all their initial decisions, but they are also trying to begin as soon as possible. In the long-term side, waterproof, light-reflective, and smooth-surfaced walls can make a huge difference in monthly to daily maintenance. In the short-term, installation and labor of a material that can be finished in 1 day versus several days can be the deciding factor of meeting the rest of the months deadlines.
Overall the current Cannabis Industry has provided a positive emergence of demand for existing businesses all over the state. It has given new opportunity to entrepreneurs and investors that are passionate about the industry. And it has also provided safer and regulated access for the consumer. With the invigoration of the economy, the future looks promising.
